Columbia, US
One of Austerlitz's oldest homes, built circa 1760. An historic marker celebrates the home and location as the site of the long-standing wagon and carriage business of Charles Kinne (1808-1882). Few hall-and-parlor-designed homes like this remain in our area. Set on 1.2 acres, the home and property offer room to build-out living space and add a garage. Many original features remain, like chestnut beams, hardware, board sheathing, and hardwood floors. This two-story home was converted last century into two separate living spaces. One could easily bring it back to a large one-family residence or keep the apartment for income or a family member. Until recently, the apartment was used for income and has one to two bedrooms and a large eat-in kitchen with a wood stove. The home does need work but will very much reward the effort to retain its historic significance.
